Garbanzo Black Bean Spread

Garbanzo Black Bean Spread

1 lb dried Garbanzo Beans
1 can Black Beans - drained
4-5 Lemons - juiced
1/2 cup Olive or Coconut oil
2 tsp Cumin
2 tsp Caraway seed
3 Green Onions - chopped
1 Tbs Sesame seeds
1 Tbs dried onion
1-2 tsp Sea Salt
Tabasco Sauce to taste

Cook the Garbanzo beans as per the directions on the package until the beans are soft. I choose this over canned Garbanzos because of the huge price difference for what you get.  Mash to a fine paste - a food processor or hand processor works best.  Add the black beans and continue processing.  Blend in the remaining ingredients being careful to taste the mixture as you add the salt and the Tabasco to match your tastes.
I invented this recipe yesterday after trying some hummus and having a negative reaction to the garlic in it.  I added the black beans just as an impulse, and ended up quite pleased with the results.  This can be used as a dip for vegetables or other snack foods or it can be used as a spread replacement for mayonnaise/ mustard.  Ellen even added it to my scrambled eggs this morning. Best of all this has a very low glycemic index so no problem for sugar handling and it is very high in fiber.  Enjoy !
